Two votes, different jobs

Both votes matter: your party vote helps shape Parliament’s overall makeup, while your electorate vote chooses your local MP. You can choose a candidate from a different party than your party vote.

Choose a party in each demo dropdown, then try Vote now. The electorate dropdown is a party-preference preview, not a list of local candidates. Nothing is sent or saved. Polling bars show external national polling and do not change with your choices.

Party vote: largely sets a qualifying party’s overall seat share. Qualification is at least 5% of party votes or an electorate win.
Electorate vote: elects a local candidate. Those seats count towards the party’s total; list MPs fill the balance. The two vote percentages are not added together.
Overhang: a party keeps electorate wins exceeding its seat entitlement. Parliament grows; this source snapshot has four extra seats above 120.
